So why do devotees chant?
The Maha Mantra is a 16 word mantra which permeates the Spiritual world to get closer to Krishna. It is the recommended method for deliverance in this age according to Vedic scriptures. This Sankirtan movement of chanting was inaugurated by Chaitanya Mahaprabhu in the 1500’s Who distributed love of Godhead by this chanting of the Maha Mantra.
How do you chant?
There are two ways of chanting
•The first and most important practice for devotees is chanting of japa on beads. A string of 108 beads equals 1 mala or round of chanting. Devotees chant one mantra per bead. The prescribed number of rounds a day is 16. This is the more personal aspect of chanting.
•The second way of chanting is called Sankirtan which is a call and response fashion accompanied by musical instruments usually for the benefit of all.
